Torque is the measurement in degrees of radial twisting the shaft will deflect under normal swing speeds for that flex. The greater the swing speed, the stiffer the shaft needed. The stiffer the shaft, the less torque the shaft will have. Note the recommended torque for given swing speeds in the 'Flex' chart above.
Torque and flex are probably the two most important to consider when choosing a shaft. The golfer wants the club head to have returned to its original position as the head impacts the ball during the swing. This is called shaft recover.
